VACANCY: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

Location: Alrode, Alberton, Gauteng
Reports to: Executive Committee

Blind SA is a leading national non-profit organisation advocating for the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of blind and partially sighted persons in South Africa. We are seeking a visionary, committed, and experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic leadership and ensure the effective management and sustainability of the organisation.

The position is a five-year contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, operational, and inspirational leadership aligned to Blind SA’s vision and mission.
  • Oversee the effective management of programmes, services, staff, and resources.
  • Lead fundraising, donor relations, and partnership development initiatives.
  • Ensure sound financial management, governance, compliance, and accountability.
  • Represent Blind SA at national and international forums and advocate for the rights of persons with visual disabilities.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance organisational culture and promote innovation in accessible services and technology.
  • Maintain strong working relations with the Executive Committee and ensure implementation of its resolutions.
 

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 8 qualification in Public Administration, Management, Social Development, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in a senior managerial or executive role.
  • Proven leadership, financial management, and human resource management experience.
  • Strong understanding of disability rights and the non-profit or public sector environment.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office systems.
  • Valid driver’s licence (not applicable to visually impaired candidates) and willingness to travel.

 

Preferred Attributes

  • Strong commitment to disability inclusion and social justice.
  • Lived experience of disability is strongly encouraged.
  • Knowledge of braille, accessible technology, or services for the blind community will be an advantage.
