Article by Dineo Madile
My name is Dineo Madile, I am 38 years old.
I lost my eye sight in 2006 meaning I was not born blind.
I went to a normal school from grade 1 until grade 12, I passed my Grade 12 in 2001and Graduated in 2005 and as I mentioned before I became blind a year later
I had a headache that never stopped only to find out that I have infections in both my eyes and that infection left scars in my eyes.
For me to realize that I will never see again was the hardest thing in my life to accept.
I was angry at God, at myself, blaming the doctors and I was in denial.
My mom was overprotective she never allowed me to do anything by myself.
In 2013 she passed away.
I had to be trained in mobility, it was frustrating and I didn’t like or understand why should I do mobility.
I didn’t know that there is life after being blind, in 2014 I went to KZN Blind and deaf to do switch- board and Braille. In 2015 I went to Action 4 Blind and Disable to be trained on the computer using Jaws.
In 2016 I went to Lead Change Development to complete my computer course, the very same year in 2016 I was given the opportunity to be a blind facilitator to teach the blind and visually impaired learners.
Right now I am able to cook, clean and do my own laundry without any fear. I am able to operate the computer as if I can see it, I can also travel from one place or province to another on my own
If I can do it, you can also do it
HAPPY WOMEN’S MONTH!!!
