Bartimea School, learners receive braille textbooks in Sesotho
Blind SA was able to handover five copies in two volumes of Lejwe la Kgopiso in Sesotho to the Acting Principal, Mrs Mothibe, Miss Seleke, Mrs Nthupig and Eric Gama from Bartimea School in Thaba Nchu on 29 November 2017. The presentation of Lejwe la Kgopiso was made possible by Lewis Store Pty Ltd participating in the “Ri Wana Ndivho” (to find, source, get knowledge) Project initiated by Blind SA to get CAPS textbooks and FET literature to blind and partially sighted learners. These titles will also now be available to other blind and partially sighted learners.
Blind and partially sighted learners attending the twenty two Schools for the Blind in the country do not have access to CAPS textbooks and FET literature. Negotiations with the Department of Basic Education and Provincial Departments of Education over many years have not resulted as yet for learners receiving these accessible formatted textbooks.
