SIGHTED TEACHERS IN UNIFIED ENGLISH BRAILLE

Blind SA recently undertook grade 1 and grade 2 braille training for 39 educators from the Gauteng Department of Education. The training took place during January and March 2017 at Sibonile and Filadelfia Schools, and was funded by the ETDP SETA. The training included: Read and Write fully contracted Braille in any one language as well as Demonstrate understanding of communication methods for blind or partially sighted persons.

 All the educators received an attendance certificate. The first batch of 20 educators had their external moderation completed by the SETA.

Of these, 9 educators received their competency certificates in Unit Standard 117872 at Filadelfia School on 28 June. A further 10 educators were presented with their competency certificates at Sibonile School on 29 June.

The external moderation of a further 6 educators in Grade 2 Unit Standard 117872  and 13 educators in Grade 1 Unit Standard 264937 braille from Sibonile is now in the process of external verification by the SETA. These certificates of competency will be presented in the new school term.
